What are the Business Analyst Guides to Success?
High quality, very affordable, online business analysis training courses for people who wish to self study for industry recognised qualifications.
We recognise that people who self study are probably self funding; we have priced our ‘Guide to Success’ courses with this in mind.
We have launched our programme with courses that support the syllabi for various certificates for the BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis.
Other programmes will follow.
When will the guides be available?
- ‘Introduction to Business Process Modelling’ supporting the syllabus for the BCS Certificate in Modelling Business Processes.
- ‘Introduction to Business Change’ supporting the syllabus for the BCS Foundation Certificate in Business Change.
If you have not already registered to be kept informed of news about the guides, why not do so now? Click to see registration page.
How will we apurchase the guides?
As guides become available for different courses, you will be able to purchase them online through the Capiro web site.
You will access these online via the Capiro web site.
What will we get?
A course contains a number of modules. Each module covers a major topic on the BCS syllabus for the topic concerned. Click here to see details about the BCS certificates and diplomas.
Modules contain a number of lessons. Lessons cover the sub-topics from the relevant BCS syllabus.
As soon as you purchase your course you will have access to:
- All the modules.
- The lessons in the first module.
We have set an average pace for the course of one lesson per day. It will probably take you at least several weeks to book a place to take your exam, so you can afford to keep to our set pace and learn each lesson thoroughly. You will receive a daily email with comments and hints for that day’s lesson.
Following that pace, immediately after completing the lessons for module 1, you will have access to all the lessons for module 2.
The format of a lesson is described in the following sections.
Video overview of the lesson.
A short video at the start of the lesson takes you through the essentials.
The online workbook contains the information that supports the BCS syllabus for your course.
Online multi-choice questions for the lesson topics.
Each lesson features an online quiz that contains multi-choice questions on the lesson topics.
The BCS have announced that they will be introducing more multi-choice style exams. Even if you plan to take the open book, scenario based style of exams, these multi-choice questions will enable you to check your understanding of the lesson.
Case Study and ‘open book’ scenario based exam style questions
A comprehensive case study features questions in the style of the open book, scenario based exams.
The case study questions all have annotated ‘model answers’.
Even if you plan to take the closed book, multi-choice style of exam which is available for some courses, the case study will help to reinforce your knowledge of the examinable topics.
End of course practice exams
As mentioned above, the final module of a course will contain the practice exams.
Depending on the course that you have chosen, the exam will be in one the following formats.
- Open book, with questions based on a scenario.
- Closed book with multi-choice questions.
Our open book style practice exams
Many of our open book style practice exams were originally accredited by the BCS when Capiro was an approved BCS exam provider.
The practice exams are supported by detailed answer ‘marking schemes’, as used in the marking of actual exams. Many of these were also approved by the BCS when Capiro was an accredited BCS exam provider, i.e. they were actually used in the marking of our official exams.
These exams typically have three to five questions.
The pass mark is usually 50%.
Closed book multi-choice style.
All multi-choice style exams, known as ‘centralised’ exams, are written by third parties on behalf of the BCS. The papers are marked by computer.
These exams usually have 40 questions.
The pass mark is 60%.
Online support whilst you take your course.
Throughout your course you will receive emails from us providing guidance and encouragement.
You may contact us at any time during the course by using a ‘member only’ contact form. This contact form that is only available to people who have purchased a course.
Are the courses that support the BCS syllabi accredited by the BCS?
These courses are not accredited although many of them will be based on material created when Capiro was a BCS accredited exam and training provider.
We gave up our accredited status in 2017. We did this because the BCS demanded that accredited providers had to run a certain number of exams each year. This would have entailed a change to our business model that we were unwilling to make.
Please note that for courses where the approved BCS ‘provider’ company writes the exams, it is the exams, not the courses, that are reviewed and accredited by the BCS. The courses themselves receive no such quality review.
For courses where the exams are in multi-choice format and are written by the BCS, it is the provider’s course that is reviewed and accredited.
What is your authority?
We were previously accredited as a training and exam provider by the BCS. We received great feedback from our live, classroom based, courses.
We have built courses for other companies that are accredited to offer particular schemes, e.g. the BCS and IREB schemes.
Our team members have been involved in training people to pass these sort of exams for many years.
How do we take exams?
Although Capiro is not accredited, and therefore cannot offer its own exams, there are various ways of registering to take the necessary exams, depending on the course.
Some BCS accredited providers offer ‘exam only’ sessions, where you pay them to take an exam at a centre provided by them. For ‘provider written’, closed book exams, this is normally the only way of taking the exam.
Centralised exams may be taken with an accredited provider or world wide at any Pearson Vue test centre.
Centralised exams are written for the BCS and are computer marked. We expect the number of courses for which centralised exams are available to increase.
For courses that offer only provider written exams, we recommend that you check out exam providers before taking our course. This is to ensure that the is a provider, convenient to you, that offers places for ‘exam only’ sessions.
For courses that offer centralised exams, you simply need to find your nearest Pearson Vue centre.
How much will it cost?
The price of each of our courses is £60.00 including VAT.
We charge only for the course.
You must pay separately for the exam. This will either be with an accredited exam provider or with Pearson VUE, depending on the type of exam available.
Payment processing for our courses will be done through Stripe or PayPal.
Stripe is a globally recognised gateway for credit card payments.
PayPal allows you to use your PayPal account or credit / debit card to make your payments.
Will be I be able to get my money back if not satisfied?
The short answer is yes. See the additional notes below.
